REACh (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals)

Dear Sir or Madam,

we like to give you some information concerning the current development of REACh and in this regard the part and activities of the EWABO Chemikalien GmbH & Co. KG.

On 1st of June 2007 the European Regulation (EG) No. 1907/2006, the so called REACh-Regulation became effective. According to this regulation, all chemical substances which are produced or imported in the EU with a higher amount than1 ton have to be registered by the producer or importer. Unregistered substances can’t be brought to market. Registered substances can only be used for applications which they are registered for. Later these applications will be mentioned in the enlarged safety data sheet.

Since the 1st of June 2008 the pre-registration is in progress. The simplified pre-registration provides the opportunity to ensure transition terms up to 11 years, depending on the amount and hazardousness of the substance, till the proper-registration effects. Pre-registered substances can be brought to market until the transition term ends. Till then the proper-registration has to be completed. The pre-registrations end on 30th November 2008.

As formulator and producer, a so called “downstream user”, EWABO takes part in REACh.

That means EWABO itself doesn’t produce or import substances in terms of this regulation, but buys substances and preparations from pre-suppliers/importers and producers to apply them into our preparations. Preparations don’t have to be registered at this time, but all REACh-relevant substances which are inserted in this preparations. For that reason EWABO is in close contact with its suppliers to assure a complete availability of its products or rather to take measures in time.

Currently we expect, that all REACh-relevant substances which apply to EWABO , will be pre-registered so that in line with the according transition term, our products will be available.

It is EWABOs aim to do everything that’s necessary to have the continuing ability in order to offer our customers the usual product-portpolio or rather an adequate option. Further information regarding this matter can be given beginning of the year 2009 at the earliest.
